Frombork is a beautiful and cozy town.

Updated: Apr 9, 2023

There is a small town of Frombork not far from Gdansk, just 100 km away.

It is known primarily that one of the most incredible minds on our planet, Nicolaus Copernicus, lived and wrote his works here. You can find a lot of information on this topic on the net, and Wikipedia will tell you. ;)

This city has other facets that I want to talk about.

Even approaching Frombork, you are greeted by classic pastoral landscapes. Farms with adorable cows basking all over the place in the warm summer sun. Every now and then, on the way, you meet the nests of storks. Not one, not two...many more. Beautiful fields flooded with gold wheat sway in the wind, now and then changing green corn labyrinths. And the whole road passes under the canopy of strong oaks and lindens. When you pass under them, it feels like you are going through a tunnel and already leaving in another dimension.

This unusual feeling is only strengthened when you drive into the city.

Of course, the main attraction of Frombork is the Cathedral, which can be seen from anywhere in the city, the Copernicus Museum, the ancient fortress wall, and several other exciting places connected course, with Copernicus. They are all located within a 15-minute walk from each other. Yes - this is a compact town, with its own atmosphere and measured way of life.

The last visit to Frombork brought me a fascinating thought - this cosy city looks the same as it did 20 years ago. The eternal metal-plastic windows, new cars, and solar panels on the roofs are the only thing that betrays its modernity. Otherwise, it's terracotta tiled roofs, cute, beige or brick one- or two-story houses, and green lawns with beautiful flower beds full of hydrangeas of different colours and bright lavender accents along the few roads.

There is a small marina on the shore with old fishing boats. It can be seen that, these boats have known better times and seen a lot. But this touch of time only adds to their charm, without superfluous gloss and demonstrative luxury, which can be found in resort towns a little to the west, along the coast. Traditionally, fishermen are met by an old tavern right on the shore. The aroma of fresh fried fish will impress lovers of traditional dishes.

Walking along the coast, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Vistula Lagoon. The area along the bay has been gentrified, and the modern recreation area, sports area, and recreation complex are another excellent innovation that reminds us that we are in the 21st century.

The pier in this city is also distinguished by an unusual, curved shape as if closing with its hook a small creek with high reeds, in which several species of rare birds are found. The pier offers a beautiful view of the city above which the Cathedral rises majestically, against which all the buildings in the city seem tiny and somewhere fabulous.

The observation decks on the water tower and in the Copernicus tower, above the observatory, allow you to enjoy the stunning view of the city and the Cathedral. And for those who are a little tired and want to relax, in this very water tower, there is a beautiful atmospheric coffee shop with delicious pies and fragrant, excellent coffee.

This is how the puzzle of a great one-day trip is put together, which will unconditionally bring a lot of vivid emotions and pleasant impressions. For example, the souvenir shop near the Water Tower will allow you to bring, along with memories and themed magnets, unique Boleslav traditional ceramics that can decorate any home. I forgot to clarify that the observatory has a planetarium with an exciting program, a small museum, and the days of organ music are held in the Cathedral. All these details allow people with various tastes and preferences to find something interesting for themselves.

Hospitable, beautiful Frombork fascinates from the first minutes, and a pleasant feeling of cosiness and comfort always accompanies memories of it.
