F.A.Q. about Step by Step project

Dear friends! The first two weeks of accepting applications went by in a flash, and at the moment there are several questions from participants that I have encountered during these two weeks.

In this regard, I want to make this article with frequently asked questions about the Step by Step project.

1. How many stages are there in the new season of the Step by Step project?

  • There is only ONE stage in the fourth season of the Step by Step project. That is, applications for participation in the fourth season of the Step by Step project will be open only from January 1 to February 25, 2024. After applications close, the next chance to take part in the project will only appear in 2027.

2. How many formats of participation in the project are there Step by Step?

  • The project is divided into two formats of participation - (not two stages) ONLINE and OFFLINE. A list of all items included in the formats can be found in the rules of participation at the link.

3. If I choose the ONLINE format, will I receive a catalogue?

  • No. This format does not provide the possibility of obtaining a catalogue. The works of participants in the ONLINE format will not be published in the catalogue of the Step by Step project. (Excluding the works of the ten format winners.)

4. How many applications can I submit during the application period?

  • There is no limit to the number of applications that each artist can submit during the submission period. That is, each participant can send an unlimited number of applications.

5. Will the cost of participation in the project change depending on the number of applications?

  • No. The cost of participation in the project does not depend on the number of applications. Each artist must pay only ONE time for participation. For ONLINE format or OFFLINE format.

6. Can I win in several categories at the same time, within the OFFLINE format of the fourth season of the Step by Step project?

  • Yes. In the new season, we decided to give participants the opportunity to claim victory in various categories at the same time. In this regard, we recommend sending more applications. Your chances increase with each application.

7. Will only one work from each participant be published in the project catalogue within the OFFLINE format?

  • Yes. The catalogue will include only one work from each participant. This will be the work that received the most points in the voting of the jury members. The only exceptions will be the works of the winners. All works that receive prizes will be published in the catalogue, even if there are several works by the same author.

8. How will the jury members vote?

  • Each jury member will receive a Google form, which will contain photos of the final works of the participants, the names of the participants, and the countries they represent. Each entry will need to be given a score from 1 to 10. Each jury member votes independently. The voting result is confidential and is revealed only as part of the vote count. All points for each work are summed up and divided by the number of jury members. If several participants receive the same number of points, an additional vote is held. Which will determine the winner. If a jury member requires additional information on any participant (photo of steps, description of steps, etc.), it is provided upon the first request.

9. Will only the final photo of my work be published in the catalogue?

  • No. In the catalogue, each participant is provided with one page on which the participant’s work will be printed with all the steps of its implementation. Including description of materials and steps.

10. Will there be a cash prize for the winners of the project?

  • Yes. In the new season, it was decided to introduce cash prizes into the awards package for the first three winners. The award amounts will be announced in April 2024. They will be awarded to the works that score the most points. Only different people can become winners in this category.

11. Is postage (catalogue, certificates, awards, etc.) included in the cost of participation in the OFFLINE format?

  • Yes. The cost of participation in the OFFLINE format includes the cost of postage. This will be a package sent by the national postal operator.

12. When will I receive my catalogue if I take part in the project in OFFLINE format?

  • All postal parcels will be sent out within one month from September 1 to September 30, 2024. * The organizers ask you to note that if the participant did not pick up his parcel at the post office on time and it was sent back, then the participant pays for re-shipment. Also, if, when filling out the application form, the participant indicated an incorrect address or an address with errors, and the parcel is sent to the wrong address of the participant, the participant himself is responsible for this. Be careful when filling out the application!

13. If I choose the OFFLINE format and come to the festival in Gdansk on August 22-25, 2024, and pick up my package (catalogue, certificate, prizes), can I pay less for participation?

  • No. For participants of the OFFLINE format who will take part in the festival or come to Gdansk to pick up their catalogue, a gala banquet is provided within the framework of the festival.

14. The rules indicate that we will need to pay additionally for participation in the festival, what amount are we talking about?

16. Will I receive a festival participant/master class certificate?

  • Yes, each participant will receive a unique personalized festival participant certificate, and a master class participant certificate, signed by the hand of the artist who conducted the master class.

17. Why should I send many applications if only one work will be published?

  • The best works of the project will be invited to be published in the book “Watercolour Step by Step”. And the more applications you send, the more works can be included in the book. We remind you that in the book, each participant will be provided with from 2 to 6 pages of 27*34 cm format. *Participation is by personal invitation only!
